The Shelton State Community College Foundation provides a multitude of scholarship opportunities. These scholarship opportunities have varying criteria. Applicants may apply for multiple scholarships.

This award is for a student enrolling full-time who is 25 years old or older. It may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (Four $4,000 scholarships)

This award is for an outstanding freshman or sophomore student interested in pursuing a career in music education or performance. The student must receive a recommendation from the music faculty committee based on the student’s performance at the SSCC Fine Arts auditions. Sophomores’ performance can be based on their fall semester jury, musicale, or NATS performance. Contact the SSCC Music Department for information regarding the Fine Arts audition. Students must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA. The scholarship may be renewed based on the recommendation of the music faculty committee. For a second-year student enrolled in the Diesel Mechanics Program. The student must have and maintain at least a 2.8 grade point average. This award is for a student who has or will graduate from Green, Hale, Pickens, Sumter, or Tuscaloosa County high school. The student may be enrolled at SSCC already. The student must have and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. The student must be and remain in good citizenship standing with the school he or she is attending and must have no current or prior citation for violating any school policies and/or codes relating to conduct or discipline. The student must submit a letter from the school he or she is currently attending that indicates good citizenship standing. The student must be enrolled full-time at SSCC during the time that the award will be used. Priority will be given to a student enrolling in a technical program. This award is for a Tuscaloosa County High School graduating senior planning to enter nursing studies. The student must be enrolling full-time. Selection is based on grades, merit, and financial need. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. This award is for a student enrolled in one of the following programs: ELT, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, MTT, or CNC. A statement of financial need should be included in the essay. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program- required supplies. (One $500 scholarship)
This award is for a full-time student seeking a career in technical theatre or a related field. The student must receive a recommendation from his or her high school or college addressing relevant experience, abilities, and aspirations in technical theatre or a related field. The student must have and maintain a “B” average. Potential candidates must have an in-person interview with staff members of Theatre Tuscaloosa to review relevant experience. Contact Theatre Tuscaloosa for information regarding the interview. The recipient will be required to work sixteen (16) hours per week in the scene shop and as a crew member on at least one Theatre Tuscaloosa or Shelton State theatrical production each fall and spring semester while on scholarship. Award is open to graduating high school students, students already enrolled at Shelton State, or college students transferring to Shelton State. The student must receive NO federal government assistance and NO federally sponsored student loans. A written recommendation from the student’s nursing instructor is required. This award is for a LPN pursuing a RN degree, with priority given to a student employed in a Tuscaloosa County nursing home as a LPN. The student must be enrolling full-time at SSCC. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (Two $1,800 scholarships)
This award is for a student enrolling at least half-time in a technical, occupational, or academic program. Priority will be given to a recent graduate of the GED programs of West Alabama. This award is for a student enrolling in one of SSCC’s technical programs. The applicant must show financial need along with interest in a vocational technical program. This award is for a student currently enrolled in the SSCC Nursing Program who has completed at least one semester of clinical coursework and who demonstrates inherent compassion, dedication, and respect for the dignity of older adults. A letter of recommendation from a current or previous nursing faculty member(s) is required. Selection is to be based on nursing faculty observation and evaluation of student performance in the clinical setting, specifically related to the student’s ability to provide compassionate care to individuals among the older adult population. This award is for a student who has successfully completed at least one semester in Culinary Arts at Shelton State Community College and is pursuing a degree in the Culinary Arts program. This award is for a student enrolled in the Nursing Program. Student must demonstrate academic achievement after completing one semester of nursing school with passing grades. A statement demonstrating a desire to work with the elderly and current or past active volunteerism in the community to be included in application essay.
